In 2016, Nvader’s Director of Police Operations was invited to give a training to 240 officers from all over Thailand during an Anti-Human Trafficking Conference and Workshop. The content of the conferences consisted of educating officers on a range of trafficking related topics, including the very basics of the meaning of “human trafficking" to rescue methods, arrest procedures, interviewing/ aftercare of victims, registration related to human trafficking and human rights best practices. Nvader’s Director of Police Operations was also invited by the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand to sit on a panel to respond to the U.S. State Department relating to the Trafficking In Persons Report!

Over the course of 2016, Nvader’s lawyer worked collaboratively with representatives from other NGOs to protect and promote the legal rights and interests of victims of trafficking and sexual abuse. One of the highlights of the year was that our lawyer could represent Sai*, a young woman who was trafficked into a brothel in her early teens. Our lawyer acted for her in court on the prosecution of two of her traffickers. She brought an application for compensation on behalf of Sai for an amount that represents a high watermark. The two offenders initially only received a four year sentence. Nvader’s lawyer lodged an appeal to the Court of Appeals, notwithstanding the limited prospects of success. However, we are pleased to report that the Court of Appeals issued its judgment upholding our appeal and imposing increased sentences of eight years on each of the two offenders! Nvader hopes to make use of this judgment in subsequent cases. It will encourage us to appeal against unduly light sentences in future cases!

Over the course of 2016, Nvader was involved in the prosecution of 71 offenders.
Additionally, 51 survivors were assisted by Nvader in partnership with local law enforcement!
We could not fight for freedom without you standing with us. To all of you who support our work, we want to say a huge THANK YOU!
