Conviction News

One of our major cases over the last two years has resulted in successful convictions!!! The two accused persons were convicted  for "being part of trafficking" and "knowingly running and profiting from an illegal brothel."

We are currently awaiting sentencing which has been adjourned until later this year so watch this space!

On hearing the news the conviction was successful the lead Nvader investigator made the comment that “This case is a great example of collaboration and I'm really pleased with the outcome.”

The case was particularly complex due to the number of countries involved and has required  the co-operation of a number of police and NGO’s.

Nvader took a lead role in locating and interviewing victims and preparing them to give evidence at trial.

A successful conviction has meant there will be very real damage to a significant criminal syndicate that is operating within both countries.

Organisational Growth

Over the last two years Nvader has experienced major growth as an organisation.  Our staffing numbers have gone from just six in 2013 to 16 in 2015!!!   Most recently we have welcomed a new investigator in our field office.

TEAR FUND’S RECENT INDEPENDENT ASSESSMENT REPORT said the following. “Nvader has made impressive progress over a very short timeframe in putting in place the structure, policy/strategy, systems and staffing of its organisation both in New Zealand and Thailand.  Highly qualified and experienced staff relevant to all main areas of Nvader’s programme -  investigations, prosecution, aftercare, partnership, business and financial management - are now in place.”

Two of our staff traveled to support three victims testify in court recently.

Our social worker was able to spend time with the girls before and after they gave their testimonies.  We still await the verdict of the case but  the girls are settled at the shelter where they will complete their studies up to Grade 12!

Our social worker reported back that “the three girls look very happy and in good understanding for their life and future!”

Great job team!

81 years in total

In early 2014 one of our investigators and his team, with support from our social worker, investigated 3 offenders who were trafficking four school age girls for commercial sexual exploitation.  The three offenders were charged and all three offenders were convicted.  Two of them were given prison sentences of 36 years and 3 months. The third received a sentence of 9 years 3 months. These sentences represent something of a record for this type of offending.

An 18 month long process has resulted in an incredible result with significant prison terms imposed.
