Taken is an action packed story about a retired CIA agent who travels across Europe to save his teenage daughter who has been kidnapped by sex traffickers.   The movie has a Hollywood ending with the traffickers getting the justice they deserve and Liam Neeson successfully rescuing his daughter who seems to suffer no lasting trauma from her experience.  The film was released in 2008 and grossed nearly US$150 million.

While it is true that some comparatively wealthy Western women and girls are trafficked into the global billion-dollar rape for profit industry, the huge majority come from the developing world.  They are vulnerable due to poverty, gender inequality, racism, corruption and globalisation.  Typically when these young women are trafficked, their father is either absent, complicit or completely lacks the resources and/or skills to know where to even start.
